1) I am used to travelling by air and only on one occasion I have ever felt frightened. After taking off, we flew low over the city. It slowly went high to the sky. But suddenly it turned round and flew back to the airport.(Ini adalah Orientation)
An airhostess told us to keep calm and to get off the plane quietly as soon as it touched down. Everybody on board was worried and we were curious to find out what happened. Later we learnt that there was a very important person on board. Earlier somebody told the police that there was a bomb on the plane. After we landed, the police searched the plane carefully. Fortunately, they did not find a bomb and five hours later we were able to take off again.(Ini adalah Event).

Teks Report adalah teks yang isinya mendeskripsikan sesuatu (binatang/barang/tempat2 umum, dll) secara umum

1) A library is a place which collects records of what people have thought and done.(Ini adalah General Classification).
It preserves those records, and it ,makes them available to us, so that we can learn about many things. In the world of library, we can entertain ourselves, teach ourselves, and be inspired by the ideas that we might never have dreamed of otherwise.(Ini adalah ‘Description’)
A library has many sections. Commonly, a library has a reading room, a catalogue section, a newspaper and magazine section, books section, and a librarian desk which deals with book circulation. The books are classified based on the subjects, such as fiction, science, psychology, etc. They are arranged on the bookshelves.(Ini adalah ‘Description’).

Steps:
– Take a pail of soil from the backyard. Mix the soil and the manure.
– Put the mixture in the flower pot.
– Plant tha flower in the flower pot.
– Take some water using the water dipper. Sprinkle the plant
– Put a little soil around the plant

LOOP-THE-LOOP PAPER PLANE .

Materials needed:

A sheet of heavy paper • A pencil • Sharp scissors • A paper clip • Crayons
Method/steps: Here  a paper airplane that will fly in circles.
1. first fold the paper in half the long way
2. Then draw an airplane with wings and tail on it.
3. Next draw a line about an inch away from the fold on each side the full length of paper.
4. Then cut out the airplane, but do not cut on the fold.
5. After that spread out the airplane and colour it. You can draw airplane markings near each

wing tip.
6. Next refold your airplane. Now fold each wing down along the time drawn on it.
7. Then add a paper clip to the nose. You can change the way your airplane flies by changing

the wing shape and putting more than one paper clip on the nose.

NARRATIVE


Teks naratif adalah teks yang isinya tentang ceritera (fiksi/non fiksi/dongeng/cerita rakyat, dll) dan dalam alur cerita /plotnya selalu disertai dengan puncak masalah/ klimaks cerita (complication) kemudian diikuti dengan penyelesaian masalah (Resolution)
Generic Structures:

Keterangan:

Orientation: it is about WHO, WHEN, and WHERE the story happened.

Evaluation: it is optional, it is usually used to make the story more interesting.
Complication: it is about the conflict or the big problem of the story. A story can have more than one complication.
Resolution: it is the solutiuon of the problem. It can be a happy or sad ending.

SNOW MAIDEN

Once upon a time there lived a couple in a village. They had got married for a long

time, but so far they did not have a baby yet. Every single minute they prayed to God, begged for a baby, but it never came true
Oneday, they went to snow mountain. They made a girl from snow and they dressed

her beautifully. When it got dark, they decided to go home and left the snow girl alone. The following morning, someone knocked the door. “Any body home?”, she said. The old women inside opened the door and asked, “Who are you?” The girl said “I’m Snow Maiden, your daughter”. The old woman was surprised and happy. “Oh really? Thanks God! Come in, please!” Since that meeting, they lived happily. Snow Maiden was beautiful, kind, diligent and helpful. Her parents and all of her friends loved her very much
Oneday, Snow Maiden played with her friends. They played fire. At first, Snow

Maiden just looked at their play. Suddenly, her friends asked her to jump on the fire. Of course she refused it because one thing that made her afraid was the fire. It’s because Snow Maiden was made of snow, so she should avoid the fire. But her friends kept on forcing her to jump on. Finally, she could not do anything then she did it. She jumped on the fire and she melted. Her friends was so sorry about this, they cried and cried hoping Snow Maiden could live again, but it was useless. Snow Maiden would not be back anymore
Her mother tried to entertain Snow Maiden’s friends and asked them to make a new Snow Maiden. They went to a snow mountain and started making it. They expected to have the new Snow Maiden. Days passed but their dreams never came true. Poor them

DESCRIPTIVE

Teks Deskriptif adalah teks yang isinya mendiskripsikan tentang sesuatu hal (benda/ orang/ tempat/ binatang, dll) secara spesifik / detail.

It is located in TMII complex, East Jakarta. Many people call it “Keong Mas� because the building has a shape like a snail. It looks amazing. The shape makes this place unique. It also has a large parking area. Besides, you can find a beautiful garden at the front of this building.

apa yang dimaksud GENRE ?

Genre adalah jenis teks.
Untuk level SMP, Genre yang harus dipelajari terdiri dari teks Narrative, Recount, Descriptive, Procedure dan Report.
Keterangan :
Jadi, pembelajaran bahasa Inggris sekarang ini berdasarkan pada jenis teks(Genre), bukan lagi Tema seperti dulu. Artinya, pembelajaran saat ini lebih menitikberatkan pada pemberian kemampuan berbahasa atau ‘lifeskill’ kepada siswa, sehingga mereka dapat survive dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat dan dapat menerapkan dalam kehidupan siswa.
Sebelum mempelajari Genre, segala pengetahuan kebahasaan (Grammar dan Vocab) harus dipelajari agar siswa mampu bermonolog dan menulis sesuai dengan Genre yang akan diungkapkannya.

Whales

Town ‘Contaminated’

Moscow – A Russian journalist has uncovered evidence of another Soviet nuclear catastrophe, which killed 10 sailors and contaminated an entire town.

Yelena Vazrshavskya is the first journalist to speak to people who witnessed the explosion of a nuclear submarine at the naval base of shkotovo – 22 near Vladivostock.

The accident, which occurred 13 months before the Chernobyl disaster, spread radioactive fall-out over the base and nearby town, but was covered  up by officials of the then Soviet Union. Residents were told the explosion in the reactor of the Victor-class submarine during a refit had been a ‘thermal’ and not a nuclear explosion. And those involved in the clean up operation to remove more than 600 tonnes of contaminated material were sworn to secrecy.

A board of investigators was later to describe it as the worst accident in the history of the Soviet Navy.

4.   NARRATIVE TEXT

Snow White

Once upon a time there lived a little girl named Snow White. She lived with her Aunt and Uncle because her parents were dead.

One day she heard her Uncle and Aunt talking about leaving Snow White in the castle because they both wanted to go to America and they didn’t have enough money to take Snow White.

Snow White did not want her Uncle and Aunt to do this so she decided it would be best if she ran away. The next morning she ran away from home when her Aunt and Uncle were having breakfast. She ran away into the woods.

She was very tired and hungry.

Then she saw this little cottage. She knocked but no one answered so she went inside and fell asleep.

Meanwhile, the seven dwarfs were coming home from work. They went inside. There they found Snow White sleeping. Then Snow White woke up. She saw the dwarfs. The dwarfs said, what is your name? Snow White said, ‘My name is Snow White’.

Doc said, ‘If you wish, you may live here with us”. Snow White said, ‘Oh could(I) ?.Thankyou’. Then Snow White told the dwarfs the whole story and Snow White and the 7 dwarfs lived happily ever after.

5.   PROCEDURE  TEXT

The Hole Game

Materials needed:

Two players

One marble per person

A hole in ground

A line (distance) to start from

Method:

  1. First you must dub (click marbles together).
  2. Then you must check that the marbles are in good condition and are nearly worth the same value.
  3. Next you must dig a hole in the ground and draw a line a fair distance away from the hole.
  4. The first player carefully throws his or her marble towards the hole.
  5. Then the second player tries to throw his or her marble closer to the hole than his or her opponent.
  6. The player whose marble is closest to the hole tries to flick his or her marble into the hole. If successful, this player tries to flick his or her opponent’s marble into the hole.

The person flicking the last marble into the hole wins and gets to keep both marbles.

6.   DESCRIPTIVE TEXT

Natural Bridge National Park

Natural Bridge National Park is a luscious tropical rainforest.

It is located 110 kilometres south of Brisbane and is reached by following the Pacific Highway to Nerang and then by travelling through the Numinbah Valley. This scenic roadway lies in the shadow of the Lamington National Park.

The phenomenon of the rock formed into a natural ‘arch’ and the cave through which a waterfall cascades is a short 1 kilometre walk below a dense rainforest canopy from the main picnic area. Swimming is permitted in the rock pools. Night-time visitors to the cave will discover the unique feature of the glow worms.

Picnic areas offer toilets, barbecues, shelter sheds, water and fireplaces; however, overnight camping is not permitted.

Tips belajar efektif dan mengerjakan ujian

1. Datanglah dengan persiapan yang matang dan lebih awal.
Bawalah semua alat tulis yang Anda butuhkan, seperti pensil, pulpen, jam (tangan), penghapus, tip-ex, penggaris, dan lain-lainnya. Perlengkapan ini akan membantumu untuk tetap konsentrasi selama mengerjakan ujian.
2. Tenang dan percaya diri.
Ingatkan dirimu bahwa Anda sudah siap sedia dan akan mengerjakan ujian dengan baik.
3. Bersantailah tapi waspada.
Pilihlah kursi atau tempat yang nyaman untuk mengerjakan ujian. Pastikan Anda mendapatkan tempat yang cukup untuk mengerjakannya. Pertahankan posisi duduk tegak.
4. Preview soal-soal ujianmu dulu (bila ujian memiliki waktu tidak terbatas)
Luangkan 10% dari keseluruhan waktu ujian untuk membaca soal-soal ujian secara mendalam, tandai kata-kata kunci dan putuskan berapa waktu yang diperlukan untuk menjawab masing-masing soal. Rencanakan untuk mengerjakan soal yang mudah dulu, baru soal yang tersulit. Ketika Anda membaca soal-soal, catat juga ide-ide yang muncul yang akan digunakan sebagai jawaban.
5. Jawab soal-soal ujian secara strategis.
Mulai dengan menjawab pertanyaan mudah yang Anda ketahui, kemudian dengan soal-soal yang memiliki nilai tertinggi. Pertanyaan terakhir yang seharusnya Anda kerjakan adalah:
– soal paling sulit,
– yang membutuhkan waktu lama untuk menulis jawabannya,
– memiliki nilai terkecil
6. Ketika mengerjakan soal-soal pilihan ganda, ketahuilah jawaban yang harus dipilih/ditebak.
Mula-mula, abaikan jawaban yang Anda tahu salah. Tebaklah selalu suatu pilihan jawaban ketika tidak ada hukuman pengurangan nilai, atau ketika tidak ada pilihan jawaban yang dapat Anda abaikan. Jangan menebak suatu pilihan jawaban ketika Anda tidak mengetahui secara pasti dan ketika hukuman pengurangan nilai digunakan. Karena pilihan pertama akan jawabanmu biasanya benar, jangan menggantinya kecuali bila Anda yakin akan koreksi yang Anda lakukan.
7. Ketika mengerjakan soal ujian esai, pikirkan dulu jawabannya sebelum menulis.
Buat kerangka jawaban singkat untuk esai dengan mencatat dulu beberapa ide yang ingin Anda tulis. Kemudian nomori ide-ide tersebut untuk mengurutkan mana yang hendak Anda diskusikan dulu.
8. Ketika mengerjakan soal ujian esai, jawab langsung poin utamanya.
Tulis kalimat pokokmu pada kalimat pertama. Gunakan paragraf pertama sebagai overview esaimu. Gunakan paragraf-paragraf selanjutnya untuk mendiskusikan poin-poin utama secara mendetil. Dukung poinmu dengan informasi spesifik, contoh, atau kutipan dari bacaan atau catatanmu.
9. Sisihkan 10% waktumu untuk memeriksa ulang jawabanmu.
Periksa jawabanmu; hindari keinginan untuk segera meninggalkan kelas segera setelah Anda menjawab semua soal-soal ujian. Periksa lagi bahwa Anda telah menyelesaikan semua pertanyaan. Baca ulang jawabanmu untuk memeriksa ejaan, struktur bahasa dan tanda baca.
10. Analisa hasil ujianmu.
Setiap ujian dapat membantumu dalam mempersiapkan diri untuk ujian selanjutnya. Putuskan strategi mana yang sesuai denganmu. Tentukan strategi mana yang tidak berhasil dan ubahlah. Gunakan kertas ujian sebelumnya ketika belajar untuk ujian akhir.

TIPS PENGATURAN JADWAL BELAJAR EFEKTIF

Pengaturan Waktu adalah membuat dan melakukan jadwal belajar agar dapat mengatur dan memprioritaskan belajarmu dalam konteks membagi waktu dengan aktivitas, keluarga, dan lain-lain.
Pedoman:
~ Perhatikan waktumu.
~ Refleksikan bagaimana kamu menghabiskan waktumu.
~ Sadarilah kapan kamu menghabiskan waktumu dengan sia-sia.
~ Ketahuilah kapan kamu produktif.
Dengan mengetahui bagaimana kamu menghabiskan waktu dapat membantu untuk:
Pertama,
Membuat daftar “Kerjaan”. Tulislah hal-hal yang harus kamu kerjakan, kemudian putuskan apa yang dikerjakan sekarang, apa yang dikerjakan nanti, apa yang dikerjakan orang lain, dan apa yang bisa ditunda dulu pengerjaannya.
Kedua,
Membuat jadwal harian/mingguan. Catat janji temu, kelas dan pertemuan pada buku/tabel kronologis. Selalu mengetahui jadwal selama sehari, dan selalu pergi tidur dengan mengetahui kamu sudah siap untuk menyambut besok.
Ketiga,
Merencanakan jadwal yang lebih panjang. Gunakan jadwal bulanan sehingga kamu selalu bisa merencanakan kegiatanmu lebih dulu. Jadwal ini juga bisa mengingatkanmu untuk membuat waktu luangmu dengan lebih nyaman.
Rencana Jadwal Belajar Efektif:
Beri waktu yang cukup untuk tidur, makan dan kegiatan hiburan.
Prioritaskan tugas-tugas.
Luangkan waktu untuk diskusi atau mengulang bahan sebelum kelas.
Atur waktu untuk mengulang langsung bahan pelajaran setelah kelas. Ingatlah bahwa kemungkinan terbesar untuk lupa terjadi dalam waktu 24 jam tanpa review.
Jadwalkan waktu 50 menit untuk setiap sesi belajar.
Pilih tempat yang nyaman (tidak mengganggu konsentrasi) untuk belajar.
Rencanakan juga “deadline”.
Jadwalkan waktu belajarmu sebanyak mungkin pada pagi/siang/sore hari.
Jadwalkan review bahan pelajaran mingguan.
Hati-hati, jangan sampai diperbudak oleh jadwalmu sendiri!

TIPS MENGHADAPI UJIAN

Tips Persiapan Menghadapi Ujian:

Berikut ini adalah beberapa tips agar siap dalam menghadapi ujian. Artikel ini diambil dari CD Media UM-UGM mengadaptasi beberapa informasi dari On Becoming a Master Student oleh David B. Ellis dan dari How to Study in College oleh Walter Pauk.

• Perhatikan setiap pedoman belajar yang dibagikan oleh guru dalam kelas sebelum ujian, atau bahkan pada awal kelas. Misalnya: poin utama, bab-bab tertentu atau bagian-bagian suatu bab, handouts, dll.
• Tanyalah gurumu apa yang perlu diantisipasi dalam ujian bila dia tidak memberikan informasi sedikitpun.
• Perhatikan dengan lebih seksama – sebelum ujian – poin-poin yang yang diangkat oleh guru dalam belajar.
• Buatlah daftar pertanyaan ujian yang akan kamu buat bila kamulah yang membuat soalnya, kemudian cobalah untuk menjawabnya.
• Pelajari ujian-ujian sebelumnya yang telah dinilai oleh guru.
• Berdiskusilah dengan temanmu untuk menebak kira-kira soal apa yang akan keluar dalam ujian.
• Perhatikan pada petunjuk yang menunjukkan bahwa guru mungkin menguji pada suatu ide tertentu, seperti ketika guru:
berbicara tentang sesuatu lebih dari satu kali.
menulis material pada papan tulis.
memberikan waktu untuk mencatat.
bertanya-tanya.
berkata, “Ini akan muncul dalam ujian!”

METODE MEMBACA
Terdapat dua metode membaca yang sangat berguna dalam menghadapi Ujian Bahasa Inggris khususnya Reading Comprehension Test.
a. Skimming yakni Membaca Cepat untuk mendapatkan gambaran umum tentang teks, judul, topik dan ide pokok bacaan.
b. Scanning yakni Membaca Secara Menyeluruh untuk mendapatkan tentang inforasi tersurat dan juga yang tersirat dalam teks bacaan.

KARAKTER SOAL dalam Reading Comprehension Test:

1. QUESTION TEST
Tes bentuk ini soal-soalnya selalu menggunakan kata-kata tanya seperti di bawah ini:
WHAT = Apa WHEN = Kapan WHERE = Dimana
WHO = Siapa WHOM = Siapa WHICH = Yang Mana
WHY = Mengapa HOW = Bagaimana
Example:
What do the first paragraph / the text talk about?
When did he go to the market?

2. STATEMENT TEST
Example:
– The text is about…….
– Paragraph two talks about……
– The text above talks about……….
– The main idea of the paragraph three is….

MAIN IDEA = Gagasan Utama / Pikiran Utama/ Ide Pokok Suatu Teks atau Paragraf.

3. INFERENCE TEST
Ini adalah bentuk soal berupa ‘rujukan kata’……
Example:
Fatima is a clever student.. She is friendly.
► The word she refers to……
Jawabannya: Fatima
Alasan: Karena kata she adalah kata ganti diri Fatima.
Pada umumnya jawaban soal ”rujukan kata” adalah KATA BENDA !!!

4. INTERPRETATION TEST
ASKING about SYNONYM or ANTONYM or the meaning of the word……..
Example:
►“Her bright skin……(2nd paragraph)
The underlined word can mean…..Jawabannya : white (putih)

CONTOH SOAL & STRATEGI PEMBAHASAN
1. Menentukan Topik Teks Cerita/ Wacana.
2. Menentukan Gagasan Utama (Judul, Tema, Pokok Pikiran)
3. Menentukan Informasi Rinci Tersurat dalam Teks.
4. Menentukan Informasi Rinci Tersirat dalam Teks.
5. Menentukan rujukan kata.
6. Menentukan makna kata, frasa dan kalimat (termasuk kosa kata, tata bahasa dan ciri kebahasaan lainnya yang terkait dengan jenis teks dan tema).
7. Menyusun kata acak menjadi kalimat.
8. Menyusun kalimat acakmenjadi paragraf yang benar susunannya.
9. Melengkapi teks yang tidak lengkap/ rumpang.

Teks untuk contoh soal nomor 1 sampai dengan 4.

A grown brownie may be up to nine feet tall. It may weigh over 1,600 pounds. But when the brown bear is born, it weighs less than one pound. If you grew at the same rate, you would weigh almost 10,000 pounds when
you were fully grown.
1. What does the text mostly tell about?

Pembahasan:
Jawaban atas pertanyaan mengenai gagasan utama adalah A. Brown bears, sebab teks secara keseluruhan menjelaskan tentang ”brown bear”.
Tips:
Biasanya gagasan utama (Main Idea) terletak di awal paragraph, pada kalimat pertama.
2. Which statement is NOT TRUE according to the text?
A. A brown bear eats meat.
B. Brown bears can beat a tiger.
C. Brown bears are tame animals.
D. Brownie will keep away when it sees people.
Pembahasan:
Jawaban yang tepat untuk pilihan jawaban yang tepat adalah C. Brown bears are tame animals.

Tips:
Informasi tersirat adalah informasi tentang bacaan yang tidak terdapat pada bacaan itu, namun informasi itu didapat dari menyimpulkan bacaan.
3. ”But, be careful, if it is wounded with a gun or if the mother bear and her cubs are shocked….” (Par 1, line 3). What does the underlined word mean?
A. Male bears.
B. Baby bears.
C. Other bears.
D. Group of bears.
Pembahasan:
Makna kata yang tepat untuk menggantikan kata ”Cubs” adalah ”Baby bears”. Pilihan jawaban yang benar adalah B.
Tips:
Untuk menentukan makna sebuah kata, bacalah dengan teliti kata-kata yang bisa menjadi Word Clues dalam kalimat. Seperti the mother bear and her……adalah Word Clues untuk kata Cubs.No. Soal
